Numerical Study of a Fluidic Precessing Jet Flow

In this presentation, Dr Tian will present the numerical simulations of a precessing jet flow in a cylindrical chamber and an iso-thermal flow in a hybrid solar-enhanced receiver (HSRC). A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model of the precessing jet has been developed by using ANSYS/CFX. The model has been validated against measurements conducted in our group. The validated model is then applied to identify the flow structure in the cylindrical chamber based on critical point approach. The model has been also applied to find out the possible controlling mechanism of the precessing flows. The swirling flows at inlet has been identified as an important controlling parameter based on the CFD results.
Dr Zhao Tian is a senior lecturer at the School of Mechanical Engineering in the University of Adelaide, Australia. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Shanghai Jiaotong University, China, in 1997 and a Master’s Degree from the University of New South Wales, Australia, in 2002. He attained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at RMIT University, Australia in 2007. His research and teaching interests focus on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and CFD modelling of engineering applications, particularly coal/biomass combustion, renewable flows and solar-enhanced combustion/gasification.
