Abstract

Traffic safety issues of urban areas are gaining increasing attention with the pace of urbanization. The complexity and uniqueness of urban transportation systems make it essential to leverage emerging datasets to obtain innovative solutions to safety issues. In the era of big data, a massive amount of data has been digitized and available at a larger scale. Meanwhile, emerging data sources such as GPS-equipped taxies, traffic cameras, social media and connected vehicles can be leveraged to extract extremely detailed information for decision-makings. This talk will discuss new opportunities in urban safety analytics with the advances in quantitative methods and large-scale datasets.
