Research Center of Tunnel & Underground Engineering
The Tunnel and Underground Engineering Experimental Research Center (TUEERC) was established in 1999 jointly by Beijing Jiaotong University and China Railway Engineering Group Corporation and was supported as “Tunnel and Underground Engineering Research Center” under the approval of the Ministry of Education of China in 2006. It is subjected to the School of Civil Engineering & Architecture of Beijing Jiaotong University to undertake fundamental theories and technology application researches in tunnel and underground engineering and geotechnical engineering, engineering projects consulting, professional training, undergraduate education and graduate training.
The TUEERC has carried out more than 100 national-, provincial- or ministerial-level research projects and major projects related to tunnel and underground engineering. Many fruitful scientific research results have been obtained and thereby it won 1 first- and 2 second-class special awards in scientific and technological progress at national level, as well as 16 first- and second-class awards at provincial and ministerial levels.
To satisfy the needs of traffic, transportation and the exploitation of underground space, the Center pays much attention to the technical consultation on key engineering projects and to professional training. It has successfully hosted many large-scale national/international technical exchange conferences and technology training.
Combination with the graduate training of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Beijing Jiaotong University, the TUEERC has been authorized as the doctoral and master’s degrees training bases in tunnel engineering, geotechnical engineering, underground engineering, environment geotechnical engineering and hazard prevention and reduction, as well as 1 postdoctoral mobile research station in civil engineering.

- Undertaking the construction and technical consultation of key engineering projects with designer and construction group.
